Professor Andrew Jones

Profile

Professor Andrew Jones took up his post as Chair of Applied Physiology on 1st August 2005. Jones is internationally recognised for his research in respiratory physiology (particularly the pulmonary gas exchange responses to exercise), and elite sports performance physiology (particularly in relation to endurance athletes).

Professor Jones has authored > 150 original research and review articles and is co-Editor of the books "Oxygen Uptake Kinetics in Sport, Exercise and Medicine" (published in 2005) and “Sport and Exercise Physiology Testing Guidelines; the BASES Guide” (published in 2007). Jones is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine, the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences, the European College of Sports Sciences and the Institute of Biology, and a professional member of the Physiological Society and the American Physiological Society. He is an Associate Editor for Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise and serves on the Editorial/Advisory Boards of the British Journal of Sports Medicine, European Journal of Applied Physiology, International Journal of Sports Medicine, International Journal of Sports Science and Coaching, Journal of Applied Physiology, Journal of Sports Sciences, and Respiratory Physiology and Neurobiology.

In addition to his research activities, Professor Jones has a keen interest in applied sports physiology. He holds BASES’ High Performance Sport Accreditation and directs the School’s BASES Accredited physiology laboratory.

Prof Andy Jones is Research Group Leader for Bioenergetics and human performance.
