Dr Gary O‘Donovan

Profile
Dr. Gary O’Donovan is a lecturer in exercise physiology and Programme Director for the M.Sc. in Sport and Exercise Medicine. Gary obtained a first class degree in Sport Science at the University of Brighton in 1999 before obtaining his Ph.D. at Canterbury Christ Church University in 2004. Gary’s main research interests are (a) the dose-response relationships between physical activity and health and (b) the relationships between fatness, fitness and health. Gary’s research has been funded by the British Heart Foundation, the British Medical Association, the National Health Service, and the Sports Marketing Research Trust. Gary is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the British Association of Sport and Exercise Scienes, and the International Association for Worksite Health Promotion. Gary spent ten years in the fitness industry and, practicing what he preaches, he enjoys running, cycling, lifting weights, and playing basketball.
