Research Topic:

Social marketing for physical activity:  Encouraging sustainable patterns of physical activity and health in children

PhD Supervisors:

Samantha is passionate about engaging children in physical activity and her research interests are centered around physical activity and health promoting behaviours in children, particularly focusing on interventions and social marketing to elicit behaviour change.  Samantha originally studied sport and health at Leeds University before working as a secondary school teacher in Leeds teaching mainly P.E., Health & Social Care & P.S.H.E.  During this time Samantha went on to study for an MSc at Staffordshire in physical activity and public health before embarking on a job as a health advisor of children in the NHS.  However, Samantha had a desire to further study physical activity in children and so came to Exeter to study on this unique project in school aged children. 

Outside of her studies Samantha is also a full-time mum to 3 children.  Samantha enjoys exercise particularly running, cycling and swimming and trains for and competes in running and half ironman races.
