Overview

I am a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Health Sciences, and a co-director of the Children's Health and Exercise Research Centre (CHERC) and the Exeter Head Impacts, Brain Injury and Trauma (ExHIBIT) research group. My research focusses on understanding how lifestyle exposures (such as exercise, nutrition, sleep and head impacts) influence parameters of cardiometabolic and vascular health across the lifespan. This involves performing a range of innovative techniques (notably vascular ultrasound) across a range of populations. I am a Review Editor for Frontiers in Physiology and our institional rep for the Physiological Society.

Broad research specialisms:

  • Peripheral and cerebral vascular health across the lifespan
  • The influence of exercise, diet and sleep on cardiovascular health
  • Exercise and the integrative control of blood pressure
  • Head impacts and cerebrovascular function
  • Interventions for the prevention of neurodegenerative disease

Qualifications

2009 - BSc (Hons), Exercise and Health with Nutrition, Oxford Brookes University

2010 - MSc, Paediatric Exercise Physiology, University of Exeter

2015 - PhD, Paediatric Exercise Physiology, University of Exeter

2018 - Fellow of the Higher Education Authority
