Overview
Towards the completion of my undergraduate degree at the Coventry University in Sport and Exercise Sciences (2021), I realized my passion for research and decided to pursue a career in academia. I joined the Exeter Head Impact, Brain Injury and Trauma research group as a Master's by Research student under the supervision of Dr Genevieve Williams, Dr David Harris and Prof Sam Vine. My undergraduate project focused on injury prevalence in combat sports which has driven me to further explore critical topics in healthcare and sports injuries.
Evaluating head traumas and brain injuries pose a great challenge to researchers and clinicians. My Master's by Research project utilizes virtual reality to explore the neuromotor and cognitive effects of subconcussive head impacts associated with participating in combat sports. The project focuses on the development of a novel VR interception task to assess anticipatory behaviour, sensory-motor integration, executive function, postural stability, motor and oculomotor control. We would like to identify metrics that can indicate brain injury to help the prevention, diagnosis, management and treatment of concussions and chronic cognitive degeneration.
