Overview

My PhD at the University of Salford was on the effect of foot orthoses on muscle activity and morphology, foot biomechanics and skin sensitivity. As part of my thesis I used electromyography (EMG) to record muscle activity of the tibialis posterior muscle with electrodes inserted into the muscle (fine-wire EMG). From this I developed an interest in the methodology of EMG in both research and applied settings. My current focus is on the change in foot muscle function and foot shape with age and pathology and the footwear needs of older adults engaging in physical activity.
