Description - summary of the module content

Module description

This module will focus on the athlete journey from preparation for competition through to rehabilitation as a result of injury, including consideration of areas such as training, nutrition and psychology/behavioural medicine. You will learn about screening and preparation for exercise, along with considerations from a medicolegal perspective. You will study the performance sport environment including aspects relating to pitch-side care and management of injuries. This module will provide you with a detailed, theoretical basis and practical experience in preparation for future employment in sport and exercise medicine environments.

Module aims - intentions of the module

This module aims todevelop your understanding of the role of different screening and monitoring methods in the management of athlete health and performance throughout their competitive journey.  This will provide you with the skills and knowledge to critically evaluate the role of nutrition, musculoskeletal, physiological, biomechanical, cardiac and psychological/behavioural screening, providing an evidence base for the appropriate selection of athlete-specific screening methods for pre-habilitation, competition, and rehabilitation.

Re-assessment notes

Deferral – if you miss an assessment for certificated reasons judged acceptable by the Mitigation Committee, you will normally be either deferred in the assessment or an extension may be granted. The mark given for a re-assessment taken as a result of deferral will not be capped and will be treated as it would be if it were your first attempt at the assessment.

Referral – if you have failed the module overall (i.e. a final overall module mark of less than 50%) you will be required to resubmit an assessment as detailed in the table above. If you are successful on referral, your overall module mark will be capped at 50%.
