Profile

Dimitris joined the Children’s Health and Exercise Research Centre (CHERC) in 2012 to complete his MSc in Paediatric Exercise and Health after obtaining a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation (IKY).

Dimitris obtained the Postgraduate Research Enhancement Fund to develop his research and professional skills by attending the National Training Scheme for Bone Densitometry organized by the National Osteoporosis Society. He also received a DXA Scanning Honorary Practitioner position at Derriford Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust (Healthy Bones Department Services) to be trained and receive the competency to work without supervision to perform DXA scans.

His PhD research is supported by Marie Curie fellowship program (European Commission 7th CIG. His current research is focused on bone health and its metabolism in adolescents engaged in osteogenic (football) and non-osteogenic (cycling and swimming) sports.

His principal research interests lie in the field of physical activity and nutrition and their effects on health outcomes during growth. In the future he is interested to develop adaptable interdisciplinary programs to improve and treat non-communicable diseases.

Dimitris is a long term supporter and fundraiser of UNICEF, a keen traveler and passionate about playing sports and joining organizations focused on children’s health, education and protection.
